THE SIDELINES : 3 to Purchase Arizona Stadium
SUN CITY, Ariz. — Three Glendale, Ariz., businessmen have entered into a lease-purchase agreement to buy Sun City Stadium for $2 million.
The stadium has not had a tenant since 1985, when the Milwaukee Brewers moved their spring training headquarters to Chandler, about 30 miles to the southwest. It also is the former home of the Sun City Saints women’s fast-pitch softball team.
Bob Atkinson, one of the partners, said the group acquired the property June 1 from Bade Boyes Partnership of Glendale.
Atkinson said he and his partners will use the stadium for baseball games, special events and concerts.
