Soviet ‘Certain’ He’ll Be Playing for NBA Warriors
ZAGREB, Yugoslavia — Soviet national team star Charunas Marchulionis said today he is “certain” to play for the Golden State Warriors in the NBA next season.
“I’m certain I will be the first from my country to play basketball as a pro in the United States,” Marchulionis told the Associated Press.
Marchulionis, 25, was interviewed at the European Basketball Championships that started here today
“Everything is settled with the Soviet sports authorities, and I’m continuing my basketball career in the NBA,” Marchulionis said.
The 6-foot-5 1/2 guard, who plays for Statiba Vilnius, is considered the second-best Soviet national team player after center Arvidas Sabonis.
