Youth Arrested in Slaying

Share

A 17-year-old Torrance youth was arrested Thursday morning on suspicion of murder in connection with the shooting of a 34-year-old Carson man whose body was found Sunday in a van behind a liquor store on Crenshaw Boulevard in Torrance.

Philipe Antonio Cruz, Jr., 18, of Torrance was arraigned earlier in the week for murder. Cruz, who is being held in County Jail without bail, pleaded not guilty Wednesday in Torrance Superior Court in the slaying of Randy Dwayne Vicars. Police say they believe Vicars was shot with a .22 caliber handgun and robbed in the van, which was found behind Anchor Liquor in the 23800 block of Crenshaw Boulevard.

Police said they arrested Cruz Monday and found a .22 caliber handgun during a subsequent search of his house.

Police would not release the name of the youth because he is a juvenile and has not been charged.
