Corona Del Mar : 70 Marines to Hike Along Roads Monday

More than 70 reserve Marines wearing camouflage uniforms will march between Irvine and Corona del Mar State Beach early Monday morning, Marine officers said.
“This route shows the civilian community our training to maintain a combat-ready status,” said Lt. Col. D.J. Kingsbury, commanding officer of Marine Air Logistics Squadron 46, headquartered at El Toro Marine Corps Air Station. “The route also offers more challenging terrain than the base provides, while still being close enough to the air station to allow continued training after the march.”
The Marines will return to the base by bus.
Officers said the Monday trek will mark the first time that a reserve squadron of Marines from the air station has marched through civilian communities. At the beginning of the route, near Jeffrey Road and Barranca Parkway, the troops will march on a bike path. The last four miles of the march will be along public roads, officers said.
The Newport Beach Police Department will briefly stop traffic along MacArthur Boulevard to allow the troops to cross at designated points.
The 10-mile march is scheduled to start at 6:30 a.m.
