Faye Dunaway and Richard Widmark are starring in “Cold Sassy Tree,” an adaptation of the Olive Ann Burns novel for the TNT cable channel. Widmark plays a widowed grandfather who falls in love with Dunaway’s milliner character.

Briefly noted: Reruns of “The Golden Girls” will join the NBC daytime schedule July 5, replacing “Wheel of Fortune,” which is moving to CBS. . . . “Freddy’s Nightmares” has been renewed for a second season in syndication, with 22 new episodes ordered. Robert Englund will be back as Freddy Krueger, host and occasional featured villain in the thriller anthology series.

Jazzman Charlie Parker, the subject of a feature film last year, will be profiled in a PBS documentary July 17. “Celebrating Bird: The Triumph of Charlie Parker,” to be presented on the “American Masters” series, features excerpts of his saxophone playing and interviews with such fellow musicians as Dizzy Gillespie, Roy Haynes, Jay McShann and Roy Porter.

Fox Broadcasting has set July 15 as the telecast date for a special edition of “Cops,” its “video verite” series about police. The hourlong installment was taped in the Soviet Union. Meanwhile, the production team is taping 13 new half-hour episodes in Portland; those will begin running July 22.
