Sheriff’s deputies arrested four men early Sunday in connection with the shooting of a Newhall man, who remains hospitalized in critical condition with a single gunshot wound to the head, authorities said.

Ismael Santana, 19, was shot about 11:45 p.m. Saturday during an argument outside an apartment complex near Arch and Market streets, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Bill Wehner.

Witnesses told investigators that the four men fled in a yellow 1979 Honda Civic, which deputies spotted a short time later in the driveway of a Newhall Avenue residence, Wehner said.

Arrested at the house were Hermilio Martinez Gama, 27; Oscar Gama, 24; Effren Valentino Gama, 21, all of Newhall; and Andres Hernandez, 24, of Santa Ana. It was not clear if, or how, the Gamas are related, Wehner said.

The suspects were booked on suspicion of attempted murder and were being held without bail at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Substation, Wehner said. Santana was in critical condition at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital in Newhall late Sunday, a hospital spokeswoman said.
