Murray Way Off Base for His Defense of Rose

Share

Jim Murray comes to the defense of Pete Rose, writing: “It is mystifying why a society that grants new trials to multiple murderers on technicalities, that sends assassins (I suppose he means would-be assassins) of presidents to therapy, that blames itself for the most horrible street crimes and wanton slaughter by snipers in towers, has a baseball law that turns a misdemeanor into a capital crime against society.”

What utter demagoguery and absolute nonsense. Isn’t Rose himself trying to escape by grasping for “technicalities?” And under our form of government, that is his right. He is just lucky that he can afford the best attorneys that money can buy.

Murray should come off it. If Rose is found to have bet on his own team, he deserves the well-known punishment--banishment from major league baseball for life.
