Venice : Student Flights Decried

Share

In the wake of a small-plane crash at a Venice intersection, the Venice Committee on Santa Monica’s Airport is calling for an immediate moratorium on student training flights out of the airport pending completion of an investigation of the crash.

“We have to question whether student training flights continue to be an appropriate use in a crowded residential area,” said Allison Argo, co-chairman of the committee.

There was no immediate response from Santa Monica city officials.

The committee was founded in 1987 to address airport noise and overflights in the Venice area, and is composed of members of the Venice Town Council, Venice Action Committee and Venice Chamber of Commerce. The committee recently completed negotiations with Santa Monica city officials on an interim flight pattern aimed at reducing flights of small planes over Venice.
