St. Louis, a member of the Major...
St. Louis, a member of the Major Indoor Soccer League for nine seasons until the Steamers folded last year, has been awarded an expansion franchise for the 1989-90 season.
The team will be owned by Milan Mandaric, a San Jose businessman, and its roster is expected to include several players who either grew up in St. Louis or played with the Steamers. Former Steamers scheduled to join the team are midfielder Darryl Doran, defenders Steve Trittschuh and Mark Frederickson and goaltender Slobo Ilijevski.
Doran and Frederickson were selected in the league’s dispersal draft of players from the Los Angeles Lazers, which ceased operations last month.
