Controversial Burbank Official Takes Brea Post

Burbank Assistant Community Development Director Susan Georgino, whose marriage to a prominent developer last year was the subject of controversy, has been hired as redevelopment manager for the city of Brea.

Georgino, 39, who also serves as the city redevelopment director, will leave Burbank in the next few weeks, officials said. She was a city employee for eight years and held her present positions for 18 months.

City officials became concerned in October about possible conflicts of interest when she wed Victor Georgino, a developer of the AMC multiscreen theater in downtown Burbank.

City Atty. Douglas C. Holland at the time asked the state Fair Political Practices Commission to determine if there were any conflicts. But the agency said the marriage would not pose conflicts as long as Georgino was not involved with her husband’s projects and did not make decisions on property within 300 feet of property in which he had an interest.

Holland said Susan Georgino also could not make decisions on projects that might benefit her husband’s projects in the future. She is not involved with the negotiations on the proposed Burbank Gateway shopping mall downtown, he said.

At the time of the marriage, Susan Georgino had already removed herself from decisions regarding projects that involved her husband, officials said.
