Four-Run 4th Helps Orange Beat Foothill

Orange High School scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to break a 3-3 tie with Foothill and go on to a 10-3 victory in the Irvine Baseball Assn. and Times Orange County Hardball Tournament at UC Irvine Friday night.

Jason Smith started the inning with a single, winning pitcher Rick Platter doubled Smith home and Jesus Romo got on an error by shortstop Brian Palluck to score Platter. Next, Kirk Thompson singled to put runners on first and third, Chris Lister hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Romo and Thompson moved to third. Thompson then scored on losing pitcher John Sardino’s wild pitch.

Orange added three runs in sixth on Rick Foster’s triple, Jason Smith’s double, Prater triple and Romo’s single.

In another game, University defeated Newport Harbor, 16-3. University scored seven runs in the second inning, keyed by Bill Thompson’s bases-loaded triple, to break the game open.

In today’s games, Huntington Beach plays Estancia at 10 a.m., Corona del Mar plays Canyon at 1 p.m., El Toro plays Capistrano Valley at 4 and Tustin plays Laguna Hills at 7.
