Man Slain in Santee Neighborhood

A man was shot and killed Sunday evening in a Santee neighborhood, and sheriff’s deputies surrounded the area in an attempt to catch the assailant, authorities said.

The victim, who had not been identified Sunday night, died from a gunshot wound to the chest after being rushed by Life Flight to Sharp Memorial Hospital.

The shooting took place in the 8800 block of Olive Lane near Mac Cool Lane about 6 p.m., a Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman said.

Authorities surrounded the neighborhood for more than two hours and believed the assailant was trapped in the area, but by late Sunday a suspect had not been apprehended, the spokeswoman said.
