1 Killed, 3 Injured in Gang Violence

Gang members firing guns from passing cars killed one man and wounded three others in attacks in four areas of Los Angeles, authorities said Thursday.

Delane Powell, 24, of Gardena, was pronounced dead outside a house in the 1500 block of West 104th Street at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sheriff’s Deputy Roger Hom said.

Powell had been standing with companions when shots were fired from a car, Hom said. Powell was the only one hit.

Two other men were wounded in similar attacks early Thursday morning, police said.

Todd Washington, 24, was struck in the eye as he stood in a restaurant parking lot at Tobias Avenue and Roscoe Boulevard in Van Nuys, Sgt. Ted Hanson said.

About the same time, an unidentified teen-ager was wounded in a confrontation with three gang members in a car at the Aliso Village housing project, Officer Mark Storti said.

Victor Flores, 18, of Wilmington, was walking home from a visit with his girlfriend when he was shot in the right leg by gang members in a passing car in the 1000 block of D Walk about 3:10 a.m. Thursday, Sgt. Tony Rosa said.
