For the first time in 20 years, an actor will head the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Oscar-winner Karl Malden, who has been on the board of governors for the last five years, has become the academy’s 27th president. He succeeds Richard Kahn. Actor Gregory Peck was the president from 1967-70. Elected as vice presidents were Charles M. Powell, Donn Cambern and Robert Rehme. Joseph Westheimer was re-elected for the third consecutive time as treasurer, and former academy president Fay Kanin rejoins the board as secretary.
