LOCAL : Freeway Crash Kills Studio City Man
A Studio City man driving a Corvette more than 100 m.p.h. on the Hollywood Freeway was killed when he lost control of the car and crashed, the California Highway Patrol said this morning.
Frank Georgianni, 47, was killed in the 11:40 p.m. accident Wednesday, CHP Officer Dave Grajeda said. The victim had been heading south on the freeway at speeds ranging from 100 to 115 m.p.h. when the car went out of control on a curve north of Chandler Avenue, Grajeda said.
The 1974 Corvette with an open T-top spun several times across traffic lanes, struck a light pole and rolled down an embankment into trees, Grajeda said. Georgianni, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the car, which landed on top of him, Grajeda said.
Georgianni died at the scene. No other vehicles were involved, Grajeda said.
