A 3-month-old girl has become the second person to die of injuries suffered in a head-on collision between two pickup trucks in Santa Ana, police said Friday.

Police spokeswoman Maureen Thomas said the infant died late Thursday of head and internal injuries at Western Medical Center in Santa Ana. The baby’s name could not be released, she said.

The child was injured in an accident at Main and Bishop streets near downtown Santa Ana late Wednesday. An unrelated 44-year-old woman, who was not identified but who was riding in the same truck as the infant, also was killed in the accident.

Police said a man driving a pickup truck crossed a center line and crashed head-on into the truck carrying the woman and the baby. The woman’s husband and another child were not seriously injured, police said.

Thomas said Efram Jiminez Cruz, 21, of Santa Ana, who is suspected of driving under the influence, was charged with manslaughter.
