Fullerton’s Van Dortrecht Perfect in Softball
Ann Van Dortrecht pitched a perfect game, striking out all 21 batters, as the Southern California Ballhogs defeated the Tucson Angels, 2-0, Thursday in the first round of the 19-and-under national softball tournament in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Van Dortrecht, who plays for Cal State Fullerton, didn’t come close to walking a batter.
The Ballhogs broke a scoreless tie in the top of the seventh. Lisa Sciarrino of Western High School and Pam Barr of Diamond Bar singled and both later scored on an error.
In other first-round game:
Gordon’s Panthers of Cypress defeated Ripco Sonics of Illinois, 13-4. Missy Gyde of Kennedy High School had two hits and two runs batted in.
