The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced today that four companies have agreed to recall approximately 250,000 hair dryers that the commission believes present a danger of electrocution.

In announcing the voluntary recall, the commission said it estimates that 17 Americans die each year of accidental electrocution by hair dryers, usually when they are dropped into bathtubs.

The firms and the hair dryers involved in the recall are MBR Industries Inc. of Miami, maker of Pomair Pro 2100 and 1900; Mustang Electronics Inc. of Hallandale, Fla., maker of Mustang MU 2100; Major International Inc. of Orange, maker of Major Styling Dryer Model 1250, and China Bazaar of San Francisco, Minimate Hair Dryer and Iron DS-601.
