Hoshino Leads Sweep by Japanese Drivers
Led by Kazuyoshi Hoshino, Japanese drivers swept the top four places Sunday in the All Japan F-3000 Championship, which was interrupted twice by accidents.
Hoshino, leading almost all the way in a Cabin T89 Mugen, sped 41 laps around the 2.77-mile Fuji Speedway at the base of Mount Fuji in 55 minutes 41.595 seconds. His average speed was 122.414 m.p.h.
Hoshino earned $35,700 for the victory.
Hitoshi Ogawa started his Stellar Lola T89-50 from the pole position but finished second in 55:56.548, followed by Hideki Okada in a Leyton House 89B Mugen in 56:01.348 and Masanori Sekiya, driving a Leyton House 89B Mugen, in 56:02.294.
In a Sanyo Excedio Takenaka Lola, Italian Mauro Martini was the fastest among foreign racers, placing fifth in 56:40.623.
