SIDELINES : Brewers Get Romero From Braves
The Milwaukee Brewers, their infield ravaged by a series of injuries, acquired veteran infielder Ed Romero from the Atlanta Braves today and placed rookie second baseman Billy Bates on the 15-day disabled list.
Romero, who played with the Brewers from 1980 to ‘85, was acquired from the Braves for a player to be named later.
Bates suffered a separated shoulder in Tuesday night’s 4-2 loss in Baltimore when he slipped on wet turf. Shortstop Billy Spiers was also injured Tuesday night, suffering a muscle strain in his chest.
Romero, 31, signed with Atlanta on Aug. 12 after being released Aug. 5 by the Boston Red Sox. He batted .264 with one homer and one RBI in seven games with the Braves. He batted .212 with six RBIs in 46 games with Boston.
