LOCAL : Tustin, Orange Women Die in Crash

From Times Staff and wire service reports

Two women killed in a two-car collision on Santiago Canyon Road on Monday have been identified as Maria Tapia-Cruz, 23, of Tustin, and Janice Muth, 42, of Orange, authorities said this morning.

California Highway Patrol spokesman Keith Thornhill said the women were killed when a 1987 Dodge Colt drove over the center lane of the road and struck an oncoming Nissan 240SX head-on, resulting in the closure of the eastern Orange County road for nearly three hours Monday night. There was only one person in each car, and it was not known this morning who was driving which car, he said.

The accident occurred one mile southeast of Chapman Avenue, Thornhill said.
