2 Killed After Car Runs Quartz Hill Stop Sign

A man and woman were killed Wednesday when their car ran a stop sign in Quartz Hill and was broadsided by a van, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The names of the 73-year-old Lancaster woman, who was driving, and her 70-year-old passenger from Los Angeles were not released.

They were killed about 10:55 a.m. when the woman missed a stop sign on 47th Street West at Avenue L-8 and drove through the intersection, Officer Scott McKnight said.

Their southbound car was struck on the driver’s side by a van driven by Sheryl D. Fink, 42, of Lancaster, who sustained back and neck injuries. She was treated at Antelope Valley Hospital Medical Center in Lancaster.

McKnight said both cars were going about 35 m.p.h. when the collision occurred.
