Academy Award-winning film veteran Walter Matthau will appear in his first TV movie for CBS. In the AT&T; production titled “Incident at Lincoln Bluff,” Matthau will play a small-town lawyer assigned to defend a German prisoner of war during World War II.

Jean Stapleton plays the title role in “Mother Goose Rock ‘n’ Rhyme” for the Disney Channel. The movie musical features original songs performed by Cyndi Lauper, Bobby Brown, Little Richard, Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel. Classic nursery rhyme characters will be brought to life by Teri Garr, Harry Anderson, Garry Shandling, Elayne Boosler and David Leisure.

In the NBC movie “The Tracey Thurman Story,” scheduled for Oct. 2, Nancy McKeon is an abused Connecticut wife who sues her local police force for failing to protect her from her estranged husband, played by Dale Midkiff. The landmark case on which the story is based provided a model for domestic-violence legislation across the nation.

Lauren Bacall, Charles Durning, John Mahoney and Marsha Mason are set to star in the Turner Network Television remake of the 1933 classic “Dinner at Eight.” The prominent cast of the original film featured Jean Harlow, Billie Burke, Lionel Barrymore, Wallace Beery, Marie Dressler and John Barrymore.
