The creative team responsible for “The Last Emperor” (which won nine Oscars, including best picture), will reunite for a new film called “The Sheltering Sky.” Director Bernardo Bertolucci, producer Jeremy Thomas and screenwriter Mark Peploe are working on “Sky,” which is based on Paul Bowles’ novel of a postwar romance. Principal photography starts late this month in North Africa. The stars are Debra Winger and John Malkovich and, in his feature debut, Campbell Scott, son of George C. Scott and Colleen Dewhurst. Others from “Emperor” working on the new film are director of photography Vittorio Storaro, costume designer James Acheson, editor Gabriella Cristiani and sound recordist Ivan Sharrock.
