Share

The city and the Irvine Unified School District will commemorate the nationally designated Year of the Young Reader on Oct. 21 with a “Celebration of Books” featuring varied family activities with a storybook theme.

The nonprofit event will be at Deerfield Community Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will celebrate the works of 20 California authors and illustrators who will sign their books, give readings and demonstrate illustration techniques. Also, there will be a storybook character costume parade led by the Venado Middle School Band, sidewalk chalk drawings, book skits, a reader’s theater, and participation activities such as learning to design pop-up books. There will also be clowns, mimes, magicians, children’s folk singers and storytellers.

Families are encouraged to bring picnic lunches and spend the day.
