For a guy whose coach says is in poor shape, Bryant Taylor sure left the Westlake High defense in tatters Friday night.

Taylor, the senior fullback in Oxnard High’s wishbone offense, rushed for 215 yards and four touchdowns in 21 carries to lead the Yellowjackets to a 47-13 victory over Westlake.

“Taylor’s not in real good shape. He’s running hard, but not hard enough,” Coach Jack Davis said. “He’s hitting the hole fast but not breaking away when he gets into the secondary. He’s a little overweight.”

3 Taylor, 6-foot-3, weighs 205 pounds--20 more than his playing weight last season when he led Ventura County with 1,250 yards and 18 touchdowns in 180 carries.

He racked up those yards in only 10 games because Oxnard did not make the playoffs. Should Taylor, who is ranked among the top 15 running backs in the nation by Super Prep magazine, lead Oxnard to a postseason berth this year, even Davis would have to concede Taylor has carried his weight.
