Cleveland 14, Van Nuys 6--Tailback Pat Bryant rushed for 98 yards in 17 carries and scored the game-winning touchdown to lead Cleveland at Van Nuys.
Trailing, 7-0, early in the fourth quarter, Van Nuys cut the deficit to 7-6 on a 15-yard run by quarterback Roy Vasich. A bad snap on the conversion attempt, however, spoiled any chance for a tie.
Cleveland took a 7-0 lead in the second quarter on a one-yard run by fullback Stevie Dumas. The play was set up by a fumble recovery by Warren Whitaker at the Van Nuys 21.
Van Nuys’ offense, which managed only 19 yards for the first half, had four turnovers, including three interceptions by Cleveland defensive back Kosal Uch.
