A 30-year-old Spring Valley resident killed a Northern California man with a gun blast to the face and then turned the weapon on himself in an attempted suicide Saturday afternoon following an argument in an El Cajon restaurant, El Cajon police lieutenant Jim Davis said.

Randall David Larson of Jamacha Road was in serious condition at Sharp Hospital with a shotgun wound to the chest late Saturday following the 12:12 p.m. shooting in the parking lot of Allie’s Restaurant at 1324 East Main St. in El Cajon, Davis said in a press statement.

When police arrived at the scene they found 56-year-old Raymond R. Kist from Dublin, Ca., dead next to his car, with Larson lying on the ground a short distance away. Davis said that details were still unclear concerning the argument, which apparently started inside the restaurant and continued outside.

Five Hospitalized

In other area police activity late Friday and early Saturday, five San Diego men were hospitalized in separate incidents where stabbings and shootings resulted from arguments.

In the most serious case, San Diego police said that Cornelius Gavin was stabbed five times about 3 a.m. Saturday with an icepick in the 1300 block of 8th Avenue after being accosted from behind by several men who robbed him. Gavin was reported in critical but stable condition at the UC San Diego Medical Center. There are no suspects.

Also early Saturday, Moises Molina was stabbed once in the back after an argument with another man in front of a convenience store at 30th and Hawthorne streets in Golden Hill, police said. Molina, 19, is in serious but stable condition after surgery at Mercy Hospital, a nursing supervisor said. No suspect has been identified, police said.

Late Friday, an argument over a missing necklace between two groups of men near the downtown trolley stop at 11th and C streets led to Manuel Chacon being shot twice in the back with a .22-caliber weapon, police said. Chacon was taken to Mercy Hospital but is expected to be released today, the nursing supervisor said. Police are looking for a thin black male in his early 20s, a spokesman said.

Gunshot Wounds

Two men showed up with gunshot wounds at Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa early Saturday after reports of gangs fighting in the parking lot of the McDonald’s restaurant on Highland Avenue in National City, National City police said.

One male, Daniel Guttierrez, 19, is in stable condition at Grossmont, a spokesman said. The second man was transfered in stable condition to Kaiser Hospital but there was no further information available. A police spokesman said they have made no arrests in the case, adding that when officers arrived at the parking lot, they found no suspects, but only gun shell casings and blood spots on parked cars.
