Troy Rally Defeats Fullerton

Trailing 16-0 at halftime, Troy High School quarterback Greg Windle threw three touchdown passes, including a 33-yard game-winner to Steve Friedrich with 1 minute 33 seconds remaining, to give the Warriors a 20-16 Freeway League victory over Fullerton at Fullerton District Stadium Friday night.

Windle completed eight of 10 passes in the second half for 133 yards. Friedrich had two touchdown catches in the second half and finished with four receptions for 76 yards.

Fullerton (5-2, 1-1) scored first. With 7:30 remaining in the first quarter, quarterback Rene Arias hooked up with John Bailey on a 53-yard touchdown pass play. Arias, who completed 14 of 20 passes for 202 yards without an interception on the night, connected with Bailey again five minutes later for a 17-yard touchdown.

Bailey capped Fullerton’s scoring with a 39-yard field goal with 21 seconds remaining in the first half. The Indians went into halftime with the 16-0 lead after holding Troy to just 49 yards and two first downs in the first half.

It reversed in the second half for Troy (4-3, 1-1) as the Warriors limited Fullerton to 34 yards and three first downs.

Windle completed his first touchdown pass to Friedrich for 21 yards with 2:39 left in the third quarter.

Taking advantage of a personal foul penalty against Fullerton, Windle used just two plays to get Troy back in the end zone. He found tight end Chad Hartford for a 15-yard touchdown pass with 5:10 left in the game.
