WESTMINSTER — Ocean View High School quarterback Randy Karliner ran for two touchdowns and passed for three more as the Seahawks defeated Westminster, 41-12, in a Sunset League game Friday.
The victory keeps Ocean View (5-2, 2-0) in a first-place tie with Huntington Beach.
Ocean View Coach Howard Isom wasn’t expecting such a wide margin of victory.
“It caught me unaware,” Isom said, “but we broke some big plays early and that opened it up.”
Twenty seconds into the game, Karliner broke through the Westminster line on a keeper and sprinted 71 yards untouched for Ocean View’s first score.
On their next possession, Karliner found a wide-open Albert Fanoga over the middle for a 37-yard touchdown pass play. And the Seahawks finished the first quarter with Scott Caringella scoring on a 15-yard cutback sweep to build a 21-0 lead.
But it wasn’t only the offense that built the 41-6 halftime lead. Andrew Wind had two interceptions as Ocean View intercepted Westminster (1-6, 1-1) five times and forced three fumbles.
