Longshot Caltech turned back a rally in the stretch by favored Yankee Affair to win the $750,000 Budweiser International at Laurel Race Course in Maryland.

Ridden by Rene Douglas, Caltech led almost the entire way.

Yankee Affair, the 8-5 favorite ridden by Jose Santos, finished second, 1 3/4 lengths back and 2 1/2 in front of another longshot, Mister Wonderful, ridden by Fernando Toro.

Caltech added the $450,000 winner’s share to the $157,970 he earned in 15 previous career starts. He returned $28.80, $9 and $7.80. Yankee Affair, a 7-year-old who has won more than $1 million this year, got $150,000. He paid $3.20 and $2.60.
