COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Chapin’s Goal Gives Golden West Title

J. Chapin scored with 1:31 left to lift Golden West College to a 14-13 victory over Long Beach and also clinch the South Coast Conference water polo title Tuesday at Long Beach Belmont Plaza.

Chapin, Henry Rabello and Jason Mills scored three goals each for Golden West (26-3 overall and 6-0 in conference play). Long Beach finishes 5-1 in conference.

Long Beach tied it, 13-13, with with 3 minutes 15 seconds left.

In Orange Empire Conference men’s water polo:

Saddleback 13, Palomar 11--Dave Becker scored five goals and A.J. Anderson and Tino Perone each had three for Saddleback (17-10, 8-2), the second-place team in the conference.

Becker scored with 3:32 left to tie the score, 11-11. Anderson scored with 1:07 remaining for a 12-11 lead and Becker scored Saddleback’s final goal with 23 seconds left. Palomar is 13-16, 3-6.

Orange Coast 17, Cypress 11--Tony Litwak scored six goals for first-place Orange Coast (9-0 in conference). Craig Garcia scored seven goals for visiting Cypress (19-8, 6-4).

In Orange Empire Conference men’s soccer:

Orange Coast 3, Riverside 2--Paul Oldham scored three goals to lead OCC at home. Riverside led, 2-1, at the half but Oldham tied it, 2-2, 45 seconds into the second half. Oldham scored the winning goal at the 26-minute mark of the second half. OCC (10-2-2, 4-0-1) is in first place at the midpoint of the season.

In other Orange Empire men’s soccer matches:

Rancho Santiago 4, Cypress 1--Manny Diaz scored for host Cypress to tie it, 1-1, with a minute left in the first half. Rancho Santiago (9-3-3, 2-0-3) scored three goals in the second half.

Fullerton 1, Golden West 0--Kirk Feiereisen scored with 28 minutes remaining in the match for visiting Fullerton, which is 10-6-1 and 3-2-0.
