Valley 62, West L. A. 3--The Monarchs scored touchdowns on eight of their 12 possessions and outgained West L. A., 455-112, in the WSC game.

Donald Dozier (148 yards in 12 carries) scored four touchdowns and fellow tailback Cliff Robinson (133 in 15) added two scores to lead the onslaught.

How bad is West L. A.?

Ruanda Manuel, a freshman from Palisades High, started at quarterback for the Oilers. When he suffered a shoulder injury in the second quarter, strong safety Tim Foxhall replaced him and drove West L. A. (0-7, 0-6) to its only score, a 22-yard field goal by Hugo Merles with four seconds left in the half that narrowed the Oilers’ deficit to 35-3.

Late in the fourth quarter, Foxhall was doing double duty, snapping to Merles on punts.

Merles, a 5-foot-4, 135-pound soccer player, had one punt blocked--which was recovered by Sam Edwards for Valley’s fifth score--and just got off several other kicks after fielding snaps that consistently bounced three or four yards in front of him.

Valley (3-4, 3-3) wasted little time establishing its dominance, driving 51 yards in nine plays on its first series, capped by Dozier’s four-yard plunge.

The Monarchs took a 14-0 lead two series later after recovering a West L. A. fumble at the Oiler eight, Robinson going the final two yards for the score.
