Man, 22, Killed as Car Hits Freeway Guardrail
A Woodland Hills man who was apparently coming home from Halloween festivities in Hollywood was killed Wednesday when his car went off the Ventura Freeway and hit a guardrail, the California Highway Patrol reported.
William Killmond, 22, was killed at 3:25 a.m. on the westbound overpass over Canoga Avenue in Woodland Hills, said Officer Dave Grajeda. The CHP is seeking witnesses to the accident.
“We really don’t know what happened--whether he fell asleep or not,” said Grajeda. An autopsy will determine if alcohol was involved, he said.
Evidence from the accident indicates Killmond’s car drifted from an inside lane of the freeway onto the shoulder and then hit the guardrail head-on, Grajeda said. Killmond was killed on impact.
Members of Killmond’s family told investigators that he had left home Tuesday night to attend Halloween festivities first in Santa Monica and then in Hollywood, Grajeda said.
