COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Rhone Leads Saddleback in Volleyball

Cyndi Rhone had 21 kills and eight aces to lead Saddleback College to a 22-20, 15-8, 15-1 victory over host Riverside in an Orange Empire Conference women’s volleyball match Wednesday.

Laura Farrell added 12 kills for Saddleback, which improved to 12-1 overall and 7-1 in the conference.

In other Orange Empire Conference women’s volleyball:

Golden West 3, Cypress 0--Joli Eberhart had 13 kills and Heather Bova had 11 kills and six blocks to lead Golden West (11-3, 8-0) at home, 15-12, 15-6, 15-7. Cypress is 0-8 in the conference.

In South Coast Conference wrestling:

El Camino 33, Golden West 15--Mike Ramirez pinned Adam Leste in 54 seconds in the 177-pound division to lead visiting El Camino (5-0). El Camino won seven of the 10 matches. Saddleback (0-4) was led by Don Merlino, who pinned Wayne Blasingane in 5:48 in the 142-pound class, and Jerry Decker, who pinned Pat Tracy in 2:53 in the 158-pound class.

In Western State Conference wrestling:

Cypress 23, Bakersfield 13--Ken Stegall defeated Steve Shearer, 22-5, in the 190-pound class to clinch the match for host Cypress (7-2, 3-0). Other winners for Cypress: In the 177-pound division, Mike Robles defeated Jim Froehich, 5-4, and in the 142-pound division, Mike Walters defeated David Reyes, 22-7.
