HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL ROUNDUP : Hoover’s Anguish Continues, 19-17

Hoover High doesn’t have any trouble recalling its losses against Pasadena. It’s the team’s last victory against the Bulldogs that stretches the memory.

Had it not been for two third-quarter fumbles, Hoover would have put an end to a losing streak that has extended beyond Pacific League record books that date back to 1975. In another close game, Pasadena squeaked out a 19-17 victory at Pasadena City College.

Hoover (2-7, 0-4 in league play) held a 14-7 halftime lead, then Ara Blakian failed to catch a punt in traffic and Pasadena (2-6-1, 2-2) recovered on Hoover’s 19-yard line. Three plays later, fullback Jhayson Hall scored on a 13-yard run.

On Hoover’s next possession, Stanley Baires fumbled at the Tornado 43 and Pasadena went ahead, 19-14, five plays later on Torus Stepney’s two-yard run.
