Tony Campbell scored 10 points in the first quarter and finished with 20 for Minnesota (0-2).

The Trail Blazers led, 43-42, at halftime and increased the lead to 65-61 after three quarters. Portland’s Buck Williams was called for two technical fouls and ejected after arguing with Minnesota’s Scott Roth early in the fourth period, and Campbell made a foul shot that made it 65-62.

Portland then scored eight straight points. A three-point play by Roth got the Timberwolves to within 73-65, but the Trail Blazers quickly increased the lead to 13 points and were never threatened.
