COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : OCC Routs Chaffey in Basketball Opener

Cindi Kollar had 16 points to lead host Orange Coast College to a 71-34 women’s basketball victory over Chaffey Saturday in the season opener for both teams.

For OCC, Kami Bigler had 12 points, Stefanie Moorman had 11 points and 11 assists, and Erika Manning had 11 rebounds.

In the Southern California water polo regionals at Belmont Plaza:

Cuesta 9, Golden West 8--The game was tied, 7-7, with about two minutes left, but Steve Long and Joel Gory scored to give Cuesta a 9-7 lead. Morgan Courtney of Golden West (28-4) scored with one second remaining to make the score 9-8. Courtney and Pono Faulkner each had two goals for Golden West. Long had five for Cuesta.

At the San Francisco wrestling tournament, Cypress won with a score of 64 and Golden West was fourth with 22. In the 118-pound division, Golden West’s Eric Le Garreta defeated Cypress’ Sam Lopez, 3-2, and was named the tournament’s outstanding wrestler.

In the Southern California cross-country championships, OCC’s Miricela Benavidas finished sixth in the women’s division with a time of 18 minutes 48 seconds on the 5,000-meter course at Mt. San Antonio College.

Oonagh Bruni of San Diego City won with a time of 18:07. Virginia Emiliano of Rancho Santiago was 22nd in 19:55.

In the men’s division, Chris Plamer of OCC finished 12th with a time 20:57.
