ON THE SIDELINES : Reds’ Coaches Roster Complete
New Cincinnati Reds Manager Lou Piniella today completed his coaching staff by hiring Stan Williams as pitching coach and Larry Rothschild as bullpen coach.
Williams, 53, had been a major league scout for the Yankees in 1989. He served two stints as the Yankees’ pitching coach, when Piniella managed the Yankees and previously when Piniella played for the Yankees from 1979 through 1983. Williams also was the Reds’ pitching coach in 1984 under Vern Rapp.
Williams pitched 14 years in the big leagues, posting an overall 109-94 record for the Yankees, Los Angeles, Cleveland, Minnesota, St. Louis and Boston.
Rothschild has spent the past four years as a traveling minor league pitching instructor for the Reds’ organization.
