Former Seattle Seahawks general manager Michael Blatt asked a one-time college football player to commit murder, a witness said in Stockton court Thursday. Prosecutors tried to show that Blatt paid to have a former business partner killed with a crossbow.

Blatt, a wealthy 43-year-old developer and former national sports agent, has pleaded not guilty. He had been battling in court over soured business dealings with the victim, real estate agent Laurence Carnegie.

Carnegie’s relatives and attorney said Blatt may have blamed the end of his NFL stint on Carnegie, but the claim has not been substantiated by Seahawk officials.

Blatt served as interim general manager of the football team in February. Carnegie was killed Feb. 28, six days after Blatt’s replacement was named.
