1 Eagle, 2 Birdies Put Mize in Lead in Japan Tourney
Larry Mize finished with an eagle and two birdies on his last three holes to take a two-shot lead after the second round of the Dunlop Phoenix tournament today.
The spectacular finish by Mize, which gave him a second round of 64, left him with an 11-under-par 133, two strokes ahead of Taiwan’s T. C. Chen.
Mize began on the 10th tee and played solid golf through his first 15 holes before mounting his spectacular charge. He holed a 25-foot putt for an eagle on the seventh hole, a 12-footer for birdie on the eighth and a four-footer for birdie on the ninth over the 6,993-yard, par-72 Phoenix Country Club course in southern Japan.
Chen moved into sole possession of second place with a round of 66 for a 135. First-round leader Naomichi Ozaki of Japan fired a 70, which dropped him to third at 136.
