Crenshaw Tops Banning, 6-0, in Tiebreaker

Halfback Kevin Hicks ran 79 yards for a touchdown on the 11th play of the 16-play California tiebreaker Monday to give Crenshaw High School a 6-0 victory over Banning at Southwest Los Angeles College.

In the tiebreaker, the ball starts on the 50-yard line and teams alternate offensive plays. Banning had three additional offensive plays but was unable to score.

Crenshaw, which had tied Banning for third place in the Pacific League with a 4-3 record, advanced to the City 4-A playoffs and will play at San Fernando, the North Valley League champion, on Wednesday.
