Free-agent outfielder Gary Pettis agreed to a three-year contract with the Texas Rangers.
Pettis, 31, a former Angel, is a three-time American League Gold Glove winner. He batted .257 with one home run, 18 runs batted in and 43 stolen bases in 119 games with Detroit last season.
He tied for fourth in the American League in stolen bases, was ninth in walks with a career-high 84 and led the Tigers with a .375 on-base percentage.
Despite missing the first 34 games of the season because of a sprained left thumb, Pettis had 325 putouts and was the only major league outfielder with more than 300 putouts in fewer than 120 games.
