Southeast : Cerritos High Places First in Academic Decathlon

Cerritos High School placed first in the Southeastern Division of the Los Angeles County High Schools Academic Decathlon on Tuesday; El Rancho High School in Pico Rivera was second and California High in Whittier took third place.

Topics in this year’s Academic Decathlon were chemistry and biology, micro-economics, American Indians, essay and speech, interview, music of the United States and Europe from 1901 to 1946, language and literature.

Compton High School won a most improved award because the school’s score was 3,000 points higher than last year.

The El Rancho team took third on the super quiz behind first place Diamond Bar High School and Hart, Rowland, Wilson and Workman high schools, which tied for second place.

The decathlon is sponsored by the Los Angeles County Office of Education.
