Santa to Sail In for Yule Parade

Share

Chula Vista’s Starlight Yule Parade, with floats, bands and Santa Claus, will march at 5 p.m. Sunday after a tree-lighting ceremony.

The 27th annual parade of clowns, color guards and classic cars, led by Grand Marshal Ronald McDonald, will flow down 3rd Avenue from H to E streets. Parking is available along side streets, a city spokeswoman said.

Festivities begin at 3:30 p.m. with the lighting of an 80-foot evergreen tree by Mayor Greg Cox in the Memorial Bowl at 373 Park Way. Santa will share free candy canes and pose for pictures. Santa will then change into nautical attire and board a sailboat float with his first mates for the parade, which is sponsored by the Downtown Business Assn.

Parade-goers are asked to bring new, unwrapped toys for Chula Vista Cares, a program for needy San Diego-area children. Volunteers from the Chula Vista Fire Department and the Salvation Army will collect the toys along the parade route.

For the first time, commentary from the main reviewing stand will be in Spanish and English.
