COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Rancho Santiago Advances With Victory

Corrie Blount scored 19 points, all in the first half, to lead Rancho Santiago College to an 81-52 victory over Fullerton Friday in a semifinal game in the Grossmont men’s basketball tournament.

Blount added 12 rebounds for Rancho Santiago (8-0). Matt Lien had 19 and Vern Braodnaz scored 12 for Rancho Santiago.

Fullerton is 4-4.

In the Miles Eaton tournament:

Imperial Valley 67, Orange Coast 48--Phillip Clark scored 14 points to lead Imperial Valley in the semifinal game. Scott DeStefano scored 16 for Orange Coast (7-1). Imperial Valley (9-0) plays Long Beach in the final tonight at 7:30 p.m.

In nonconference men’s basketball:

Compton 102, Saddleback 91--Andre Stovall scored 42 points for Compton (8-0) at home. Sean Keys had 24, Terrell Malone 21 and Charles Lockard 16 for Saddleback (1-4).

Cypress 88, El Toro Marines 55--Brian Kenney scored 18 points and Andre Lamoreuex added 15 to lead host Cypress (6-0).

In the Cypress women’s tournament:

Orange Coast 60, American River 54--Stephanie Moorman scored 18 points to lead Orange Coast to a win ina semifinal game. OCC (8-1) plays Moorpark at 4 p.m. today for the championship. Kami Bigler scored 14, Erika Manning 12 and Michelle Hennessey 10 for the Pirates.

In the Visalia women’s basketball tournament:

Golden West College 91, Fresno 66--Forward Shawna Armstrong scored 29 points and Micki Hamilton added 14 to lead Golden West (8-0) in the quarterfinals.

Rancho Santiago qualified six wrestlers and Golden West four at the Southern California wrestling regional tournament at Rancho Santiago.

Marc Aguirre (177) and Rusty Espinoza (142) finished second for Rancho Santiago and Pat Kinney (126 pounds), Jeff Combs (143), Ryan Owings (158), and heavyweight Chris Yagelener finished third. The top three in each weight class advance to the state tournament next weekend at Fresno.

Eric LeGarreta (118) of Golden West was the only county wrestler to win a weight class. Chris Shaul (167) and Phil Meyer (190) finished second and Russell Corbin (177) finished third.
