Only a day after its defense had shut out the Lakers in an overtime period, the Detroit Pistons fell flat as the Seattle SuperSonics’ Xavier McDaniel scored 11 of his 26 points in building a 23-point third-quarter lead en route to a 120-95 victory Saturday in Seattle.

Dale Ellis had 30 for the SuperSonics.

John Salley and Vinnie Johnson had 13 points each for the Pistons, who trailed by as many as 32 points.

The SuperSonics turned the tables on the NBA’s stingiest defense, and stopped their three-game losing streak Detroit.

Seattle, which made 44 of 85 field goal attempts, led 83-65 after three quarters. Ellis’ six points triggered a 16-3 spurt in the opening two minutes of the fourth period.

Sedale Threatt scored 10 points, leading the Sonics’ 37-point assault in the final quarter.

Minnesota 101, Cleveland 74--Winning on the road is becoming a habit for the Timberwolves--they’ve done it twice in three nights. That may not sound impressive, but they have won only two road games in their first season.

Cleveland was playing without injured starters Brad Daugherty, Larry Nance and Mark Price and backup center Tree Rollins.

New York 122, Phoenix 112--Patrick Ewing scored 41 points, including 10 in the final four minutes, as the Knicks beat the Suns at Phoenix.

Trailing 62-52, with 10:31 remaining in the third quarter, Charles Oakley’s stuff started a 25-8 run that put the Knicks ahead to stay.

Phoenix closed to 107-106 on Kevin Johnson’s layup with 2:08 to play, but Ewing hit a turnaround jump shot with 1:34 left, a three-point play 23 seconds later and two foul shots with 1:02 to go for a 114-106 lead.

San Antonio 118, Charlotte 110--David Robinson scored a season-high 32 points and had 18 rebounds as the Spurs beat the Hornets at San Antonio.

Terry Cummings had 25 points and 12 rebounds. Willie Anderson added 23 points for San Antonio.

Jordan scored on four consecutive possessions as the Bulls ran off the final 10 points of the first half for a 62-44 lead.

Atlanta 100, Philadelphia 92--Dominique Wilkins scored 25 points and Moses Malone had 21 to lead the Hawks past the 76ers at Atlanta.

Utah 100, Washington 98--Karl Malone scored 28 points, including three free throws in the final 14 seconds, giving the Jazz a victory over the Bullets at Landover, Md.

Trailing, 92-86, with 4:42 left, Utah rallied and trailed by just a point on Bob Hansen’s three-pointer with 3:03 left. Malone’s two free throws with 13 seconds remaining gave Utah its first lead of the fourth quarter, 99-98.

Bernard King then missed a jump shot with three seconds left, and Malone was fouled as he got the rebound for Utah. He made one free throw with a second left, and Washington’s last chance slipped away when King’s inbound pass slipped out of the hands of Washington’s Jeff Malone as the clock expired.

Denver 146, Portland 113--Michael Adams made five three-point goals and scored 23 points, and Alex English scored a season-high 24 points as the Nuggets defeated the Trail Blazers for their seventh consecutive victory.

The Nuggets won their ninth consecutive home game without a loss while snapping the Trail Blazers’ seven-game winning streak.

Golden State 101, Milwaukee 98--Terry Teagle’s layup and Mitch Richmond’s free throw in the final second ended the Warriors’ seven-year losing streak to the Bucks.

Chris Mullin, who led Golden State with 26 points, passed the ball to Teagle for his 10th assist after Milwaukee’s Jay Humphries tied the game, 98-98.

With one-tenth of a second left, Milwaukee’s Jack Sikma threw the inbounds pass over the backboard and the Warriors took over. Richmond was then fouled and made one free throw as the Warriors ended a four-game losing streak.
