Dramatic finishes are becoming routine for Green Bay, which won its fourth one-point game of the season Sunday to stay in first place in the NFC Central Division.

Chris Jacke’s 47-yard field goal with no time remaining gave the Packers a 17-16 victory over the Buccaneers and ruined Tampa Bay’s bid to win three games in a row for the first time in seven years.

The last four games in the series between these two teams have been decided by three points or less. The win was the fifth in the last six games for Green Bay (8-5).

The game-winning kick came on the 12th play of a 52-yard drive that was kept alive by an illegal hands-to-the-face penalty against Tampa Bay’s Shawn Lee.

The penalty against Lee nullified an incompletion on fourth and 16 from the Green Bay 39-yard line, and gave the Packers another chance on their final drive.

Packer guard Rich Moran said Lee put a hand to his throat while Moran was rushing quarterback Don Majkowski. Umpire Ed Fiffick made the call, but said he didn’t know what Green Bay player was involved.

“No. 97 (Lee) came up and gave him a shot to the face,” Fiffick said. “It stretched his neck back and held the head back. . . . I think it was the left guard, but it might have been the center. I’m not sure.”

Lee had no comment.

Tampa Bay (5-8) had come from behind in the closing minutes to win its previous two games and looked like it might do it again when Donald Igwebuike kicked a 36-yard field goal to give the Buccaneers a 16-14 lead with 1:35 remaining.

But Majkowski completed three of five passes for 32 yards after the penalty on Lee and stopped the clock with one second remaining by stepping back from the center and throwing the ball into the ground. Majkowski set up the winning score with a 17-yard completion to Carl Bland at the Tampa Bay 29.

“I know we got a huge break, but we got some bad breaks earlier in the game, so maybe they all evened out,” Green Bay Coach Lindy Infante said. “To get a second chance like we did, and then go out and do the job, that’s great. It tells us if we keep plugging, keep working hard, then good things will happen to you.”

Vinny Testaverde completed 19 of 38 passes for 188 yards, threw five interceptions and was sacked three times, twice by Tim Harris, who has 16 1/2 sacks this season.

Majkowski finished with 25 completions in 53 attempts for 331 yards and two interceptions.

Sterling Sharpe caught eight passes for 169 yards, two for touchdowns, giving him 77 receptions to break the Packers’ single-season record of 74, set by Don Hutson in 1942.
