Two structure fires injured one person and caused a combined $125,000 damage, the San Diego Fire Department reported.

A downtown fire Monday burned a closed two-story boarding house on 12th Avenue and Market street, and injured an unidentified transient who was staying there, a fire official said.

The 1:53 a.m. blaze that started because of someone smoking caused $35,000 damage, a San Diego Fire Department spokesman said. The transient was in fair condition at UC San Diego burn unit Monday afternoon.

Sunday’s fire in the 5200 block of Auburn Drive caused $90,000 damage to a single-family house, spokesman Larry Stewart said.

The 3:29 p.m. blaze that engulfed the residence and garage was contained within 30 minutes with no injuries. The fire was started by juveniles playing with matches, Stewart said.
