From Times Staff and Wire Reports

A minor earthquake gave the Riverside County community of Hemet a shake, but few residents seemed concerned and there were no reports of damage. The 3.5-magnitude temblor was centered about five miles northwest of Hemet in the San Jacinto Mountains, said Hall Daily, a spokesman for the Caltech seismological lab in Pasadena. Daily said the temblor was unrelated to a 4.3-magnitude quake during the weekend that was centered 16 miles southwest of Palm Springs. The San Jacinto Fault is the major fault in the region. But Daily said many smaller faults crisscross the area and that pinpointing the origin of the two quakes is difficult.
